Meet with
Seymur Bakhishli
Biography
Seymur Bakhishly is a 24-year-old Azerbaijani architect whose work stands at the intersection of cultural memory and creative innovation. With a deep belief in the transformative power of architecture, he views every design as an opportunity to reflect, preserve, and inspire. His projects extend well beyond physical structures—they carry emotion, identity, and public purpose.
A graduate of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (AzMİU), Seymur's journey began with a bold and meaningful vision. His diploma project, the Karabakh History Museum “November 8” for the city of Shusha, gained wide recognition for its depth andoriginality. More than a student achievement, it became a springboard for real-world opportunities and laid the foundation for his career in architecture.

Seymur began his professional path at Millimetr, a firm that played a formative role in shaping his growth as a young architect. With their early support, he went on to collaborate with other well-respected firms such as Kovaa Group and Sea Breeze Construction, where he continued refining his design philosophy and expanding his experience.
Today, he works as a Lead Architect at Foglie D’Alloro, where he contributes to both public and private sector projects while continuing to deepen his architectural impact across Azerbaijan. One of the most ambitious and large-scale efforts he has participated in is the restoration project of Lachin city—a complex initiative involving the redevelopment of more than 600 homes, undertaken by a dedicated team. Seymur’s involvement in this project reflects his capacity for collaborative execution on a monumental scale.

In contrast, the Aghdam Mosque Complex project stands out as a deeply personal milestone—a project he developed independently, from concept to realization. It represents not only his architectural skill but also his commitment to honoring cultural and spiritual heritage through thoughtful design.

What sets Seymur apart is his design philosophy: he views architecture as a form of storytelling. For him, a successful design is one that evokes emotion, sparks thought, and forges a lasting bond between people and the spaces they inhabit. “Architecture isn’t just what we see. It’s what we feel,” he reflects. Through each project, he strives to communicate meaning and create environments that leave a lasting impression.
He approaches his profession with both humility and ambition. Seymur believes an architect should remain a lifelong learner. “You always have to be a student of architecture,” he says—a mindset that fuels his curiosity and keeps his creative edge sharp. He combines strong technical foundations with a cross-disciplinary interest in geometry, history, and community engagement.

Seymur’s creative process is both structured and reflective. While he thrives in fast-paced, multi-phase environments, he also values stepping back when needed. “Sometimes, when things get intense, I step back, get some rest, then return with clarity.” This approach allows him to maintain his creative vision without sacrificing balance or perspective.
At the heart of Seymur’s motivation is a deep connection to his homeland. He sees his architectural work as part of a broader mission to restore, elevate, and reimagine Azerbaijan’s built environment—especially in regions recovering from conflict and displacement. His work serves as a bridge between past and future, weaving cultural heritage into the fabric of modern design.

Looking ahead, Seymur envisions a society where architecture is more widely valued—not just for its aesthetic qualities, but for its emotional and social significance. He hopes to make design more accessible, more human-centered, and more respected as a transformative force within Azerbaijani culture.
Seymur Bakhishly represents a new generation of architects: visionary, grounded, and purpose-driven. His career is still unfolding, but one thing is certain—the spaces he brings to life don’t simply house people. They resonate, inspire, and uplift.
